Yale-educated and born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Sam Wagstaff’s transformation from innovative museum curator to Robert Mapplethorpe’s lover and patron is intensively probed in Black White + Gray. During the heady years of the 1970s and 1980s, the New York City art scene was abuzz with a new spirit, and Mapplethorpe would be at the center of it. Wagstaff pulled him from his suburban Queens existence, gave him a camera and brought him into this art world that seemed to be waiting for him, creating the man whose infamous images instilled emotions ranging from awe to anger. In turn, Mapplethorpe brought the formerly starched-shirt preppie to the world of drugs and gay S-and-M sex, well-documented in his still-startling photographs. Twenty five years separated the lovers, but their relationship was symbiotic to its core, and the two remained together forever. The film also explores the relationship both men had with musician/poet Patti Smith, whose 1975 debut album “Horses” catapulted her to fame.

  1. Hm… You have a point. But I think is possible to inform people while being polite at the same time (I don’t really think there is never a case in which is imperative to be rude)
However, now I understand that under a lot of anger is very difficult to be polite after hearing a lot of bullshit, so I can see why Tim couldn’t hold himself at some point. (also, my point in the conversation is irrelevant)

But I don’t want to talk about this anymore, you are one of the few who has been polite to me.

  2. Honestly, the thing I fund utterly disgusting about your commentary here is that “Tim is an asshole” for responding properly to being drowned in stinking bullshit. If someone is fucking wrong about something you tell them. It doesn’t matter where you are, wrong is wrong. Would you hold the same opinion if the conversation had been Holocaust denial?
It is better to be polite than to be more informed? How stupid the world would be. Interaction with others should hold value, period.

  3. In all fairness, he in fact says “my lips are sealed, i just want to enjoy the meal” and aren’t you being a tad hypercritical? you’re calling someone an asshole, which regardless of the truth is not nice. It appears you also have the necessity to IMPOSE your opinion and heres a little secret… everybody does. finally storm ruined the dinner first by IMPOSING her opinion , thinking that it’s better. Just enjoy the bloody poem, its a master piece. oh btw you and storm commit everything you stated

  4. The problem is when the person who believes all that shit is someone close to you and you “offend” them when you try to correct them.

  5. i love science and i love God, without one or the other i would either be an idiot, or a soulless monster. Great video, took many debate destroyers out of this

  6. This short video completely changed my mind and my life. I like the bit on homeopathy because it is the most despicable piece of sham-science ever made up. Worse than God

  7. That made no sense. I love science! I love investigating! Searching for life on other planets used to have no evidence because we didn’t have the the chance to learn. We have plenty of chances to study psychics, and people have. But there is no evidence, facts, or proof to suggest psychics are real.

  8. You call me a moron and yet you fail to grasp the basic concepts of what I was explaining. All that data that proves life on other planets might be possible has only been gathered over the last 43 years or so. Before that according to you life on other planets didn’t exist simply because we didn’t know back then that it was even possible. Not knowing that something is possible does not automatically mean that it isn’t. If everyone thought like you science would not even exist in the first place.

  9. Excuse me for saying it, but you’re making an argumentum ad populum, which is a logical fallacy meaning that your argument literally is invalid.

  10. pal, heres something to prove that you are fundmentaly wrong
all of your coments have been downvoted till they arent no loner shown
    .
oh yeah, i did that. also, stop deing a kid.

  11. That “shitty wall of text” was just me trying to explain the mistake you seem to have made when you read my comment. I was simply trying to help you be informed. You don’t have to be a dick.

  12. I don’t think that replying to someone takes a huge amount of time. But you seem to, so really YOU’RE the one who doesn’t seem to have anything better to do…

  13. Its not my first language either, so rest assured. I must give away some of the credit for that interpretation as I am not the originator of it. Most of it was explained to me by another commenter earlier.

  14. I said a lot of the things he said, not all. How am I stupid when you’re the asinine dumbass who can’t read? He said the factual definition of alternative medicine, and he talked about the fact that science is not based off of faith, because of the factual definition of faith, “belief without proof or evidence”. Furthermore, his opinions about psychics and things of that nature are based off of FACTS, where as Storm’s are NOT. These facts are indisputable. You can’t disagree with them.
